Put assumptions beside the numbers
Finance work depends on definitions. A variance is useful only when the period, source, currency, version, materiality threshold, and formula are clear. Nema can prepare a review from an approved model or export and keep those assumptions visible in the Slack thread.
Start with a bounded dataset. Name the actuals and plan columns, the period, and the calculation rules. Nema can return the largest agreed variances, source references, and questions for owners. Finance still decides what caused a change, whether it is temporary, and how it affects the forecast.
Review variance without inventing a cause
Ask Nema to calculate only the measures your team defines. The output can separate arithmetic from commentary: the table shows the difference, while the narrative states which explanations appear in supplied operating notes and which remain unknown.
If a formula is inconsistent or a total does not reconcile to the supplied detail, the brief should stop there and flag it. A polished explanation cannot repair an uncertain input. The analyst corrects the model or confirms the exception before the result reaches leadership.
Prepare cash and KPI updates
A recurring finance pulse can compare approved cash or operating metrics against plan, prior period, and named thresholds. Give Nema a stable export, a metric dictionary, and the audience for the report. Ask for changed or threshold-crossing items rather than a full dashboard recap.
The update should include the data timestamp and any missing refresh. Finance chooses whether to investigate collections, spending, timing, or classification. Nema does not infer payment status from an invoice in email.
Explore scenarios with supplied drivers
Scenario work is useful when the inputs remain explicit. Provide the baseline, driver formulas, and cases you want compared. Nema can calculate the supplied cases and draft a side-by-side narrative that shows which assumption changed.
It should not invent a forecast or claim that one scenario is accurate. FP&A chooses the assumptions, validates the arithmetic, and decides which case belongs in the operating plan. The Slack thread gives business owners a place to correct an input without losing the original version.
Draft management commentary
With an approved table and selected operating updates, Nema can draft concise commentary and a question list for the review meeting. Ask it to link each claim to a figure or source note and omit unsupported causes.
This is preparation, not an accounting record or final board communication. The CFO or FP&A owner reviews every figure, conclusion, and forward-looking statement. Restricted reports belong in channels with an appropriate audience.
Start with one model
Choose a model your team knows well. Include one missing explanation and one inconsistent formula. Verify Nema's calculations outside the prose, check the citations, and confirm that it asks for the missing cause. Once that review is reliable, consider a scheduled pulse using the same definitions.
Questions from finance teams
Can Nema read spreadsheets or ERP data?
Nema reads CSV, text, and PDF files shared in Slack, so export a workbook to CSV before you share it. It can also use supported connected apps within the access available in your setup. Confirm the exact source and operation before relying on a recurring report.
Does Nema forecast on its own?
No. Ask Nema to apply explicit drivers and cases. Finance owns the assumptions, validation, and forecast decision.
Is Nema an accounting system?
No. Nema prepares analysis and drafts for review in Slack. Your ledger, planning model, and approved reporting systems remain the records of truth.
