Nema for Employee onboarding

Make the next onboarding step clear to the new teammate.

Give a new colleague the right instructions at the right point in their first weeks. Nema organizes approved material while people and team leads own access and employment decisions.

An example in Slack Illustrative

@Nema, prepare the next onboarding checklist from the role plan and approved policies. Include due dates and links, flag missing owners, and keep private personnel details out of this channel.

New teammate checklist

  • Today: review the security policy and confirm completion with the people coordinator.
  • By Friday: meet the support lead; the calendar owner is still missing.
  • Payroll details stay in the private people system, not this Slack thread.

A starting point for your team's review.

Build from the approved plan

Give Nema the role checklist, start date, team milestones, current policies, and the people who own each step. Separate universal onboarding from role-specific work. A support teammate and a finance teammate may need different training and access.

Keep compensation, identity documents, health information, and other private personnel records out of a shared Slack channel. The checklist can link the new employee to the authorized system without copying those details.

Show the next useful step

A new teammate does not need the full company history on day one. Ask Nema to group work by timing and dependency. Each item should explain the action, source link, owner, and due date when confirmed.

If system access is required before training, show that dependency. If no owner has scheduled a meeting, flag the gap instead of inventing a host.

Answer policy questions with sources

Nema can use approved procedures to answer questions in the onboarding channel. The response should cite the policy section and effective date. Conflicting or unclear guidance goes back to the people or process owner.

Informal advice from a colleague can be helpful, but it should not silently become official policy.

Keep people in control

The manager confirms role goals and introduces the team. People operations owns employment policy and required records. IT or another authorized group handles access. Nema coordinates the checklist and prepares reminders; it does not make those decisions or provision systems by default.

Review the checklist with the new teammate so they can ask questions and correct assumptions about their schedule.

Start with one role

Choose a role whose onboarding plan is already documented. Run the first two weeks through Nema and verify every link, owner, and due date. Ask a recent hire where the sequence was unclear. Correct the source plan before turning the checklist into a routine.

Questions from people teams

Can Nema personalize the checklist?

Yes, using the role, start date, location, and other approved context you provide. Avoid placing private personnel data in a shared channel.

Does Nema create accounts?

This workflow prepares and tracks onboarding steps. Authorized teams handle account creation through their approved systems.

What if two policies disagree?

Show the conflict and ask the policy owner to resolve it. Do not choose a rule based on convenience or age alone.

At the end of the first month, ask the new teammate which steps arrived too early, too late, or without enough context. Update the role plan after the responsible owners review that feedback.
