Nema for Bug triage

Give engineers a bug report they can use.

Nema organizes reports, reproduction evidence, and related issues before triage. An engineer still decides severity, ownership, and the next technical step.

An example in Slack Illustrative

@Nema, prepare this bug for triage. Check the linked issue history, list missing reproduction details, and suggest duplicate candidates.

Nema APP

Triage packet

  • The failure reproduces on Safari 19 but has no result for Chrome.
  • Issue ENG-482 describes the same error message from an older release.
  • An engineer needs to set severity and assignment.

A starting point for your team's review.

Start with the report

A useful bug report states what happened, what was expected, where it occurred, and how someone can reproduce it. Start with the original report, environment details, screenshots or logs that are safe to share, and the team's triage criteria.

Ask Nema to preserve uncertainty. A user saying "this happens every time" is a report to investigate, not a measured failure rate.

Build the triage packet

Nema can extract reproduction steps, affected versions, error messages, and missing fields. It can search permitted issue history for possible duplicates and show why each candidate looks related.

The output should separate evidence from inference. "Both reports contain error code 412" is evidence. "They share one root cause" remains a hypothesis until an engineer confirms it.

Include the report's original wording when it affects interpretation. A summary can lose the sequence that made a failure reproducible. Nema can shorten the packet while linking to the complete report.

Work in the engineering channel

Post the packet in the channel or thread where the team handles incoming defects. Engineers can add a missing environment detail, reject a duplicate, or ask Nema to update the packet. That keeps the reasoning visible to product and support without turning the agent into the severity owner.

A practical example

A report says file export fails on Safari. Nema finds the browser version, file size, and console error in the supplied records. It notes that Chrome was not tested and links an older issue with the same error code. The packet proposes a reproduction checklist.

An engineer runs the missing test, decides the reports are related but not duplicates, and chooses severity and assignment. Nema then drafts the issue update for review.

Keep judgment with engineers

Severity depends on customer impact, frequency, workarounds, and product commitments. Nema can organize those inputs but should not invent them. The engineering team owns prioritization and assignment.

After triage, record the decision and its reason. That helps support and product and prevents the next report from reopening the same question without new evidence.

Common questions

Can Nema reproduce a bug?

Nema can prepare steps and analyze supplied evidence. Do not claim a reproduction unless an authorized test actually ran and its result is recorded.

Can Nema close duplicate issues?

It can suggest duplicate candidates. An engineer should confirm the relationship before closing or linking records.

What data should stay out of the channel?

Remove secrets and restrict customer data to authorized viewers. Give Nema only the records the triage team is permitted to use.
